"PILLOWTALK" is ZAYN's first solo single since he left One Direction in March 2015. The track is taken from his debut solo studio album, Mind of Mine, released in March 25, 2016. Zayn co-wrote the song with Anthony Hannides, Michael Hannides of MYKL and Levi Lennox, who also produced the single. The song was released as the lead single from the album on 29 January 2016, along with its accompanying music video. A downtempo electronic alt-R&B track, it was well received by music critics, with most of them appreciating the singer's new musical direction. The music video for the track stars ZAYN and his girlfriend, Gigi Hadid, a fashion model and television personality.
