"Let the Music Play" is the debut single from American singer Shannon. It was released in October of 1983, reaching the top twenty in multiple international markets. It peaked at #8 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, #2 on the Hot Black Singles chart, and #5 in Germany. According to the Let The Music Play Songfacts, college student Brenda Shannon Greene was spotted singing with a live band in her cousin’s recording studio, and was invited to audition for the production team of Mark Liggett and Chris Barbosa. They introduced her to the track "Fire and Ice," which would later evolve into "Let The Music Play" and was issued on the New York-based dance label Emergency Records as a 12" single. The record became a massive club hit then broke out into the singles charts internationally.
