A single was released in September 1990, peaking at number 31 on the UK Singles Chart. In the United States, it was a number one song on Billboard's Modern Rock chart and reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in July 1991. The song was inspired by events in Eastern Europe of the late 1980s and early 1990s, such as the fall of the Berlin Wall.
