Wiki:

The track, "Take Me To Church", was released on Sept 16, 2013 by Hozier (full name, Andrew Hozier Byrne) on his debut 4-track EP. The track was written in the attic of his parent's home in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland following a difficult break-up with his then-girlfriend. The music video, directed by Brendan Canty, centers on a same-sex relationship between 2 men and a violent homophobic backlash: the video caused an online media storm when it went viral on social media. Hozier said, "Growing up in Ireland, the church is always there – the hypocrisy, the political cowardice [...] The video has the same theme – an organization that undermines humanity."
