“Dim All the Lights” was the third single from her Bad Girls album and produced by her longtime collaborators Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte. The track combines Summer’s trademark disco beats with a more soulful/pop sound. This was the third Hot 100 top two hit from the album and her sixth consecutive Hot 100 top five single. It was nominated a Grammy as Best Female Pop R&B Vocal Performance. Donna said she originally wrote the song for Rod Stewart but decided to keep it for herself. In “VH1 Presents Live and More,” she sings a few bars in Stewart’s love ballad style, before finishing the song with the more familiar disco beat. “Dim All The Lights” I wrote for my husband. I think I had laryngitis and I sounded like Rod Stewart. And I figured I could give it to Rod Stewart to sing, you know. I ran into Rod at something we were doing, and I was so … petrified that I just couldn’t say it. So I wound up singing it myself, and I’m glad ‘cause it was a hit for me.
