“2U” is a romantic ode to a woman who is worth the chase and time she demands. On June 6, 2017, Justin Bieber teased the release of the song on Twitter. The promotion of the song was later followed by a series of post on social media, in which Victoria Secret models danced to it. After the release, those videos turned out to originate from Jerome Duran’s lip-sync music video. Furthermore, Guetta sent a few lucky fans the song’s full lyrics in advance of its premiere. The song is the first official collaboration of the French DJ and the Canadian pop star, the latter of which has already been dominating the charts with DJ Khaled’s “I’m The One” and his remix of Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito.” The single soared up to #1 on several charts, conforming a recent comment made by the chief of the label Justin is signed to, Def Jam Recordings' CEO Steve Bartels: “The remarkable thing about him right now is that he could be having the song of the summer without it being his own record”
